ATHLETIC TRAINING

The Gwynedd Mercy University Training Staff will offer on-site services throughout the tournament in the Wissahickon clubhouse. All medical questions and needs must originate at this site.
The Championships trainer and EMS personnel will be on site.

AUTOMATIC QUALIFICATION

The team designated as the Big Ten representative to automatically qualify to the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships shall be the winner of the Conference Championships. If the Championships is started but not completed due to inclement weather, the Championships may be reduced to 18 holes of stroke play.
If the Championships cannot be started, or fewer than 18 holes can be played due to inclement weather, the automatic qualifier shall be the team with the best Golfstat ranking on the Wednesday preceding the Big Ten Championships.

In the event the Conference Championships ends in a tie, the following procedure shall be applied: Team: The throw out player's score will be used to determine the NCAA automatic qualifier.
The first tie-breaking procedure shall be the cumulative total of the throw out scores for all three rounds. If a tie still exists, the throw out score from the final round shall be used to determine the AQ. If a tie still exists, proceed to using the second round throw out score and continue back to the first round if necessary.
Individual Medalists: In the event that two individual medalists tie, the following procedure shall be applied:
The following round scores shall be used to determine the automatic qualifier in descending order: lowest final round, second round, and continuing back to the first round. If a tie still exists, a coin flip shall be conducted by the Big Ten representative on site.

AWARDS

The winning team will be awarded the Big Ten Championships Trophy at the awards ceremony that will take place immediately following the conclusion of the Championships on Sunday, April 28, at the 18th green. In addition, awards will be presented to the top three finishers, as well as the Les Bolstad Award and the All-Championships Team (top five finishers and ties). The selection of the All-Conference team, Coach, Player and Freshman of the Year, will be coordinated through the Conference Office. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 30th.

BANQUET

The Championships Banquet will be held on Thursday, April 25, at the Wissahickon clubhouse. The Banquet Reservation form must be returned by Monday, April 15. The program will begin promptly at 6:20 p.m. and conclude at 7:45 p.m. During the dinner, the names of all Big Ten senior golfers will be announced. Due to limited seating capacity at The Philadelphia Cricket Club, invited guests will be limited to the following: players and coaches from each school (8 per team maximum), invited Big Ten officials, invited Big Ten Network personnel, and a few select Philadelphia Cricket Club invited guests.

CHAMPIONSHIPS COURSE

In 1920, the Club commissioned one of its members, the renowned A.W. Tillinghast, to create a golf course in Flourtown. Now known as Wissahickon, this Tillinghast course shows the work of a design genius at the height of his abilities. The course opened for play in 1922. In 2013-2014, the course underwent a complete restoration. Playing Wissahickon as Tillinghast envisioned it is sure to provide a world class experience. Golf.com ranked The Philadelphia Cricket Club as the 2014 Best Restoration of the Year. Golfweek featured the restoration in their June 2014 issue and then ranked Wissahickon as the #29 Classic Course in the country in their 2018 rankings. The PGA of America selected Wissahickon to host the 48th PGA Professional National Championship in 2015. The PGA Tour selected Wissahickon to host the 2016 Constellation Senior Players Championship, won by World Golf Hall of Fame member, Bernhard Langer. In 2017, Golf Digest ranked Wissahickon as the 5th “Best Course in Pennsylvania”. Also, in 2017, Golf.com moved Wissahickon inside of its Top 100 U.S. rankings at #86 in the country. Wissahickon will also host the 2020 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball. In addition, Wissahickon also played host to the 2016 Philadelphia PGA Championship and the 2017 Golf Association of Philadelphia Amateur Championship.

CHAMPIONSHIPS FORMAT

For 2019, the Championships shall consist of 54 hole stroke play. 18 holes will be contested on each day of the tournament (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

CONCESSIONS

Concessions for spectators will be at the clubhouse and halfway house at Wissahickon. Cash and major credit cards accepted.

CONDUCT

The Big Ten Conference Championships will be conducted in accordance with the Rules of Golf, The NCAA Hard Card, the NCAA Local Rule for Distance Measuring Devices, The NCAA Advice Rule, and the Notice to Players specific to the golf course being played, inclusive of procedures specific to unsportsmanlike conduct.

In addition to any conduct deemed inappropriate by the Rules Committee based on the policies and procedures outlined above, coaches and student-athletes shall abide by the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy as outlined in Agreement 10 of the Big Ten Handbook.

EMERGENCY ROOM

The closest emergency room from The Philadelphia Cricket Club is Chestnut Hill Hospital (215-248-8200).
Directions to the hospital from PCC: Take Valley Green Rd. to Stenton Avenue and turn left. Turn right at the first light (Montgomery Ave.). Turn left at the next light (Germantown Ave.). The hospital is approximately 2 miles on the left side.

GOLF CARTS

One golf cart will be provided to each participating school each day. Only an institutional representative (non-athlete) may drive or ride in the assigned golf cart for that institution during a tournament round. Only two people may ride in the cart at one time. Exceptions must be approved by the Rules Committee. A placard with your school’s name will be affixed to the front. Carts will be located in front of the Golf Shop each morning. Please return the cart to the same location each day following the completion of play. Carts will not be provided for spectators. Requests for the use of a cart based on medical conditions and/or media requests must be received in advance of the Championships and will be addressed in the following manner: requests sent to and administered by A.J. Edds.
1. Parent: Volunteer shall shuttle the parent from hole to hole. (Limited number available)
2. Fan/Family Member other than Parent: Volunteer shall shuttle the fan to his/her choice of tee designated spots on the golf course. The individual must specify a designated pick-up time. (Limited number available.)
3. Media: Member of the host facility shall develop policies for media for the championships as well as educating and monitoring the media relative to the policies.

HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS

In the event of hazardous conditions, the Championship may be reduced to 18 holes of stroke play by a decision of the head Golf Association official on site, the golf course manager, the host Championship manager, and the Conference office liaison in attendance.

LOCKER ROOM

A limited number of lockers will be set-up and available for players and coaches in the Clubhouse.

MEALS

A hot breakfast buffet and lunch will be provided for players, coaches, and administrators each day in the Wissahickon Clubhouse beginning Thursday morning.

MEDIA

Megan Rowley will coordinate media relations for the 2019 Big Ten Men’s Golf Championships and will be on site for the duration of the event. Wireless internet will be available in the live scoring/media services area. The deadline to request media credentials is April 22. Prior to the start of each day’s competition, a course map which will include pairing and starting times will be distributed to the general public. Following each day’s competition, complete results will be distributed to the coaches. Notes and statistics from each competing team will be available in the working media room, and information will be updated on a daily basis. Fans and media can also follow the Big Ten Championships action at bigten.org and on Twitter @bigtenchamps.

In addition, live stats will be available at golfstat.com, bigten.org, and philacricket.com. Results of the Championships will also be posted on the main scoreboard located near the Clubhouse. Each participating institution will receive two copies of the final results of the Championships by mail.
After a 10-minute cooling off period following the completion of a player’s round, an interview area will be open to all credentialed members of the media. Any coach or student-athlete requested by the media will be made available for interviews. Requests should be made to Megan Rowley. The interview area for the championships will be clearly marked. Each coach and student-athlete will be escorted to the interview area by Megan Rowley.

MERCHANDISE

Merchandise will be available for sale to participants and spectators in The Philadelphia Cricket Club Golf Shop, which is located in the clubhouse. The Golf Shop will be open daily throughout the Championships.

PRACTICE ROUND

On Thursday, April 25, 2019, the practice facility will be open starting at 7:00 a.m. At 8:00 a.m. the course will be available for play, starting off holes #1 and #10. Starting times will be set based on year-end rankings on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. You will be asked to skip a hole if your group falls out of position. The golf course will close at 5:00 p.m. and the practice facility will close at 6:00 p.m.

PRACTICE FACILITY

On the practice round day, the practice facility will be open at 7:00 a.m. The practice facility will open at 6:30 a.m. prior to the start of round #1 and #2. On final round day, the practice facility will open at 6:00
a.m. Each school will have a designated area (consisting of enough space for two players at a time) in which to practice. Unlimited range balls will be provided in this area.
Thursday, April 25 – Practice Round
• 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 pm.
Friday, April 26 – First Round
• 6:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
• 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 27 – Second Round
• 6:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
• 2:00 p.m. –6:00 p.m.
Sunday, April 28 – Final Round
• 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
In addition, we have a Practice Putting Green & Chipping Green that will be available during the same time periods listed above. Unlimited range balls will be provided.

RESTROOMS

Restrooms are located in the Wissahickon Clubhouse and on the Wissahickon behind the 5th green (grounds facility), and also by #13/#15 teeboxes.

RULES

The Conference Championship shall be governed by the current USGA (United States Golf Association) rules, unless conditions at the Championship site warrant local rules and except as modified by the men’s golf championships manual and Conference rules, regulations, and agreements.
Decisions of game officials are final. Protests arising from the decisions of the officials or any inadvertent misinterpretation of the rules will not be considered by the Conference.

RULES OFFICIALS & COMMITTEE

The Rules Officials for the Championships will be from the Philadelphia Section PGA. The rules committee is led by Chip Warren of the Philadelphia PGA.
The Rules Committee shall be responsible for the following:
1. Set up and marking of the course.
2. Decisions regarding any rulings during the course of play.
3. Disciplinary action.
4. Interpretation of all rules.
The Games Committee (Moseley, Lubahn, Nye) will have input in the above and in any other matters as deemed appropriate by the Rules Committee and Championship Manager.

SCORES

Team scores shall be determined by adding the low four scores of each team for each round. A team shall consist of no more than five players per institution.

SPECTATORS

Spectators will be encouraged to maintain appropriate distance from the participants. Spectators will not be given golf carts.

SPIKELESS SHOES

The Big Ten will comply with the NCAA policy concerning spikeless shoes.
